When and Why Should You Have Your Air Duct Cleaned?

September 16, 2022

When was the last time you thought about your air ducts being cleaned? Most people totally forget about their air ducts. Unfortunately, this can become problematic. Dust, mold, debris, insects, and pests can find their way into your air ducts, and this can greatly reduce indoor air quality. According to WebMD, we breathe in and out approximately 22,000 times a day. It would be better if you breathed in clean air that is not filled with dust. Apart from simply blowing your ducts with air each time your HVAC system runs, you need to set aside time for air duct cleaning. This ensures that you don't end up with clogs.

General Duct Cleaning Schedule

Even if you install the best filters and change them regularly, your ducts are still going to collect dust and debris. This is especially true if you stay in a location that has high pollution. For instance, maybe you are surrounded by construction sites. Too much debris in your ducts can lead to clogs. This also reduces air quality. Generally, you need to hire
air duct cleaning services seasonally. If you change your filters regularly, you can clean them less frequently.

Benefits of Regular Duct Cleaning

Avoid Insect and Rodent Infestation

When there is too much moisture in your ducts, you end up with several problems. Mold and mildew will start thriving, and the moisture will also attract insects and rodents. These creatures can easily use the interconnected duct network to spread throughout the home. Some of these pests can damage your home significantly. Any sign of an infestation is an indication that it's time to clean your ducts. You should also consider hiring an exterminator before the ducts are cleaned.

Clear Any Excess Dust Released Through the Registers

You need to invest in air duct cleaning if there is excessive dust coming from the registers. Too much dust can end up being an air quality hazard. This is why you should check the vents occasionally to see how air is being released into your home. Additionally, you must seriously consider duct cleaning when there is a musty, burning smell each time you turn on the furnace.

There is generally no set schedule for when air ducts should be cleaned. However, it's wise to clean them when seasons change. Have you noticed any of the signs above? If yes, give Maxim Cleaning & Restoration a call today so we can help you with needed air duct cleaning.

We are not referring to the play by Eugene O’Neill (for more information, visit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ The_Iceman_Cometh ). Ice is nice … in a drink or to skate on … but NOT in your home or business. Here in Omaha and Council Bluffs, we are all too familiar with the types of havoc that ice and fluctuating temperatures can wreak outside, in our streets and our yards. Sadly, some of us know that frozen pipes can have a devastating effect inside our homes as well. Frozen water expands, and when that ice is inside pipes, this can cause your pipes to crack. Then, once the ice melts, the water will seep out of the resulting openings. You can easily end up with a flood somewhere in your home. In light of recent extreme weather, you may have realized that there is little time left to prepare your home for winter weather. The American Red Cross recommends that homeowners drain water from swimming pools and sprinkler supply lines before temperatures drop. Hoses used outdoors should be drained and stored. Adding insulation to attics, crawl spaces and basements will also help. Another good idea is turning on an indoor faucet to a trickle in extreme freezing weather, using hot water if possible. You can also open the kitchen and bathroom sink cabinet doors on cold nights to allow the warmer air to enter those areas. The Weather Underground has additional recommendations to keep you safe during the winter months. Stock up on products to melt ice on walkways, sand for improved traction, snow shovels or other snow removal equipment, seasoned wood for your fireplace or wood-burning stove. Make sure you have adequate clothing and blankets. Have a Family Plan to follow in case of emergencies, including contacts, meeting places and steps to take. Minimize travel, but keep a disaster supply kit in your vehicle. Should you have water damage due to this or any other reason, please call MAXIM Cleaning and Restoration at 402-697-9004. We are here to serve.
