Dyer Vent Cleaning

Dryer Vent Cleaning

1. House Fires

In as little as thirty seconds, a tiny flame can turn into a huge blaze. Do you want to take that risk? Each year, people are injured or killed in house fires, and many of them could have been prevented.

One of the most important reasons to clean a dirty dryer vent is to prevent house fires. Lint is very flammable, and any that accumulates in the dryer vents is a common reason for dryer fires.

Don’t let a dirty dryer vent turn you into a statistic. To keep your home safe, it’s vital that you schedule a regular dryer vent cleaning.

2. Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Carbon monoxide is both odorless and colorless, making it a dangerous threat.

Carbon monoxide can build up inside the home, and if you have a gas dryer, inside the vents. CO can’t leave through a vent clogged with lint and other debris, and these fumes can escape back into the house, potentially causing carbon monoxide poisoning.

3. Expensive Electric Bills

A blocked dryer vent decreases the efficiency of your appliance. As a result, your dryer needs to work harder to dry your clothes. If it seems to take longer than usual to dry your clothes, it may be due to a clogged vent.

Since it takes longer to dry clothes, you may need to run the dryer multiple times to dry the same load. This can impact your electric bill, causing it to go up.

4. Short Dryer Lifespan

If your dryer vents are clogged, your dryer must work harder. This can cause your appliance to burn out faster since it puts more wear and tear on the parts. Once it breaks down, you’re stuck buying a new dryer.

Keeping your vents clean ensures your dryer works as it’s supposed to, so you can get more out of your investment and extend its lifespan.

5. Debris from Pests

Bugs and rodents often look for places to hunker down and keep warm in the winter. This often includes dryer vents. Birds can also nest in dryer vents.

The problem is that these unwanted critters can leave behind debris that can clog your vent. Thankfully, you can prevent any debris buildup when you schedule regular dryer cleanings.

We are not referring to the play by Eugene O’Neill (for more information, visit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ The_Iceman_Cometh ). Ice is nice … in a drink or to skate on … but NOT in your home or business. Here in Omaha and Council Bluffs, we are all too familiar with the types of havoc that ice and fluctuating temperatures can wreak outside, in our streets and our yards. Sadly, some of us know that frozen pipes can have a devastating effect inside our homes as well. Frozen water expands, and when that ice is inside pipes, this can cause your pipes to crack. Then, once the ice melts, the water will seep out of the resulting openings. You can easily end up with a flood somewhere in your home. In light of recent extreme weather, you may have realized that there is little time left to prepare your home for winter weather. The American Red Cross recommends that homeowners drain water from swimming pools and sprinkler supply lines before temperatures drop. Hoses used outdoors should be drained and stored. Adding insulation to attics, crawl spaces and basements will also help. Another good idea is turning on an indoor faucet to a trickle in extreme freezing weather, using hot water if possible. You can also open the kitchen and bathroom sink cabinet doors on cold nights to allow the warmer air to enter those areas. The Weather Underground has additional recommendations to keep you safe during the winter months. Stock up on products to melt ice on walkways, sand for improved traction, snow shovels or other snow removal equipment, seasoned wood for your fireplace or wood-burning stove. Make sure you have adequate clothing and blankets. Have a Family Plan to follow in case of emergencies, including contacts, meeting places and steps to take. Minimize travel, but keep a disaster supply kit in your vehicle. Should you have water damage due to this or any other reason, please call MAXIM Cleaning and Restoration at 402-697-9004. We are here to serve.
