4 Signs Your Dryer Vent Needs Cleaning Immediately

April 26, 2023

Washing clothes is one part of keeping your home fresh and sanitary, and your dryer plays an important role in that. As this appliance is used often, it's important to keep your dryer and your home safe with proper cleaning. While regular maintenance should keep your vents in shape, it doesn't make them impervious to issues. Here are four signs to keep an eye out for that suggest your dryer vent may need cleaning right away.

You Hear Unusual Noises

While these machines are known to make noise, some particular noises can be signs of trouble. When your hose gets clogged, you may have a noisy dryer on your hands. This can be highly disruptive, and since it's comparatively easy to solve, it's best to reach out for professional assistance as soon as you notice the issue.

The Dryer Is Too Hot

Do you notice your dryer is too hot at times? Unfortunately, trapped heat can result from clogged hoses or vents. In serious cases, you may start to see smoke from the machine. Don't ever use a smoking machine, as it can become a fire hazard! Dryer vent cleaning can help prevent this, but keep in mind that you may also need a new machine.

You Notice Burning Smells

The last thing you want is clothes that smell, especially when it's a burning scent. Check the venting system as soon as possible if you notice this smell after your drying cycle. When heat is trapped in the machine due to debris, this smell can result. Your clothes need proper circulation during the dryer cycle. A clog can prevent this from happening, so make sure to check the venting.

The Drying Process Takes Too Long

Do you use your dryer frequently? According to Philips, the average U.S. household does roughly nine loads of laundry per week and the majority use drying machines. As you might imagine, clogs can hinder their usefulness. If it seems like it's taking forever to dry clothes, the first thing you should do is check the vent.

Your dryer saves time and keeps your clothes clean and safe. That's why you should never ignore vent cleaning. You don't want a fire hazard or clothes that take forever to dry, so keep your dryer up safe and efficient with good
dryer vent cleaning. Contact our team at Maxim Cleaning & Restoration today for more information.

We are not referring to the play by Eugene O’Neill (for more information, visit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ The_Iceman_Cometh ). Ice is nice … in a drink or to skate on … but NOT in your home or business. Here in Omaha and Council Bluffs, we are all too familiar with the types of havoc that ice and fluctuating temperatures can wreak outside, in our streets and our yards. Sadly, some of us know that frozen pipes can have a devastating effect inside our homes as well. Frozen water expands, and when that ice is inside pipes, this can cause your pipes to crack. Then, once the ice melts, the water will seep out of the resulting openings. You can easily end up with a flood somewhere in your home. In light of recent extreme weather, you may have realized that there is little time left to prepare your home for winter weather. The American Red Cross recommends that homeowners drain water from swimming pools and sprinkler supply lines before temperatures drop. Hoses used outdoors should be drained and stored. Adding insulation to attics, crawl spaces and basements will also help. Another good idea is turning on an indoor faucet to a trickle in extreme freezing weather, using hot water if possible. You can also open the kitchen and bathroom sink cabinet doors on cold nights to allow the warmer air to enter those areas. The Weather Underground has additional recommendations to keep you safe during the winter months. Stock up on products to melt ice on walkways, sand for improved traction, snow shovels or other snow removal equipment, seasoned wood for your fireplace or wood-burning stove. Make sure you have adequate clothing and blankets. Have a Family Plan to follow in case of emergencies, including contacts, meeting places and steps to take. Minimize travel, but keep a disaster supply kit in your vehicle. Should you have water damage due to this or any other reason, please call MAXIM Cleaning and Restoration at 402-697-9004. We are here to serve.
